Effective Dates for your Employees
This occurs when an application for coverage is received within the time period stated in the group health insurance contract. This is where the employee completes the enrollment application to join the group health benefits.
After the groups initial enrollment , new employees will become effective on
- The first day following the completion of waiting period, provided the application is received in a timely manner.
- The first billing date following the waiting period.
Open Enrollment for Late Enrollees
For groups 2-50
The open enrollment period for employees to join the plan is 31 days prior and 31 days after the renewal date.
If the application is received 31 days prior to the renewal date, then the coverage could start on the renewal date of the group health plan.
If the application is received within 31 days after the renewal date, then the group health coverage could start the 1st of the following month after the group health renewal.
Remember there may not be an open enrollment period for Life and Disability policies.
For Group plans with 51+ employees.
The open enrollment period is 31 days prior and 31 day after the Health Insurance renewal.
The late enrollee can apply for coverage at that time.
If the application is received 31 days prior to the renewal then the coverage could start on the renewal date.
If the application is received within the 31 days after the renewal date then coverage could start at the first of the following month.
In the event a group health insurance renewal date is delayed, then the open enrollment date may also be delayed.
